Landmark conference: Educating for Empathy - the reading factor

In December, we held the first ever conference focusing exclusively on using literature to build empathy. Delivered in partnership with the University of Sussex and St Matthew’s Research School.

We were joined by leading psychology and literacy experts, cutting edge researchers, authors and inspiring grass-roots educators like Rashmi Sirdeshpande, Cath Howe, Hannah Gold, Professor Robin Banerjee, Headteacher Sonia Thompson and many more.

At a time of great social need for empathy, delegates heard the case for an explicit empathy education and an exclusive preview of new psychology research. Plus, they came away with practical tools and strategies to build a whole school, evidence-informed approach to harnessing reading’s power to build empathy.
