Read for Empathy Collections

2017-2022

'Scientific research shows that reading builds empathy. So let’s use stories to help the rising generation develop superb empathy skills, and build a better world. It’s our best hope for the future.'

Judging panel 2020

Teachers and parents are increasingly concerned about the potentially empathy-draining effect of social media on children and the new pressures caused by societal divisions.

To combat this, we have produced annual
Read for Empathy Book Collections, along with accompanying Read for Empathy Book Guides, since 2017.

Our guides are for both parents and teachers, and are split between
primary (4-11 year olds) and secondary (11-16 year olds), chosen by a panel of expert judges.

Featuring picture books, powerful stories, poetry, and graphic novels, we hope the collections will inspire young people to turn feelings of empathy into action - in their homes, schools and communities.

All of our guides are available for purchase through our partner,
Peters, or through independent booksellers.
