Using books to build empathy

Our definition of empathy is the ability to experience and understand other people's feelings and points of view. We believe it is a core life skill every child deserves the chance to develop, and a force for social change.

Our strategy is based on scientific research showing that empathy is a learnable skill, and that books are a practical, powerful tool to build it. Read our background research to learn more.

With hate crimes, polarisation and mental health problems all on the rise, we passionately believe society needs new empathy-focused strategies to help us all understand and support each other better.
