Empathy Superpower Challenge

Speak Empathy to Power

The decision-makers in our lives need empathy super powers too! Recommend stories to help them make the best choices. This is a great twist on book recommendation and creative story-based activity. Largely suitable for KS2 children, but could also be aimed at younger children.

  • Talk about how books could build empathy by giving people insight into other lives
  • Talk about who makes decisions in our lives, our communities and our country
  • Share some books with the class and discuss the issues raised by the stories
  • Who would they recommend the stories to? Ask them to share with people in their lives or their community who take decisions on behalf of others

Ideas for using books in the Empathy Collection to Speak Empathy to power

  • The Soup Movement by Ben Davis Use to encourage local community groups to support food banks
  • Tisha and Blossom by Wendy Meddour & Daniel Egneus Could be recommended to busy parents to encourage the whole family to pause and enjoy time together
