Work in Wales

Work in Wales

Since 2019, our in-depth schools programme has been focused in Wales, where the new Curriculum for Wales 2022 features empathy 35 times. We partner with the Books Council of Wales, school improvement bodies and local authorities alongside various clusters of primary and secondary schools.

We were extremely fortunate to be funded by innovation agency Nesta to consolidate and roll out our programme in Wales. Our first Future Read Fund grant focused on work with the Pentrehafod cluster in Swansea, particularly adapting the programme to a secondary school setting.

In autumn 2020, we were thrilled to have been selected for follow-on Future Ready Fund support. This enabled us to roll out to a further Pembrokeshire cluster and deepen the programme’s resources.

Read for Empathy Guide Wales

In 2022, to further support our work across Wales, we launched our first ever collection of empathy-rich books available in both English and Welsh.

Selected by a panel of experts including school leaders, teachers and library staff it represents an important step in our commitment to providing bi-lingual materials as part of our schools programme.
